FMP first day

Today was the first day of my FMP! I've spent most the day deciding on an idea to Follow and i have narrowed it down to either my own clothing brand or rebranding an event/festival! I think that both of these ideas will work for me really well and look forward to get started.

Bad Website Analysis

This is an example of a terrible website. Everything about this website is wrong for example the type, pixelated images, awful stock tiled background, flashing text, bright unattractive colours, borders on images, old retro style weather forecaster at the top which is also very pixelated. From a design perspective one of the main factors contributing towards this terrible website is the layout as it is all just in a list form and there is no titles or menus, therefore you are just lost and dont know where to look.

This second website is also an awful design. Red is a colour that grabs your attention and is used by alot of companies but they have taken it to another level, the majority of the website is using red backgrounds. its is all very crammed in together so it gives the website a hard readability factor. Also with all the rough pictures around the edge with price offers on, it just gives the website a very cheap and tacky feel.

This is my final example of a bad website design. compared to the other two examples i have given of bad websites above this website design actually looks quite good, however although it is not completely shocking at first sight it is just a very boring design to look at. there is nothing grabbing your attention and it is just simple and dull. Personally like simplicity when it comes to designing however this is boring.

Jon Burgerman Inspiration

We have been researching into Jon Burgerman recently for our Narrative college project, however I have decided to look a bit deeper into his style of art as I really enjoy he's doodle/graffiti style as this really appeals to me as I like to draw these type of doodles already!
This is a Jon Burgerman design.

I had a go at drawing a Jon Burgerman style doodle based on my personal narrative theme which is the feeling of crowds and being crushed so I included lots of people with frantic faces to create a deep range of emotions which works well to enforce the seriousness of the situation so it was not lost by the cartoon style drawings. I also made my doodle quite packed with lots of things going on to give the effect that there is not much space and therefore developing on the feeling of being crushed. I think that the final outcome of my Jon Burgerman style doodle is very successful and I am pleased that people can look at it and immediately gain an understanding of what is happening even though it is not a real life drawing and is in a cartoon form.
 This is my final outcome.

Beaney Gallery visit

I Visited the Beaney gallery in Canterbury to visit a small type exhibition, although it was not a very big and well known display of artwork, it was very interesting to see how other artists interpret type and layout. There was one small section of the type work that really intrigued me as it featured an unusual display of book construction and a very interesting approach to type within a book, seeing these was quite a useful inspiration as it ties in well with my current narrative project at college.

I really enjoyed my visit to the gallery and I think that seeing these examples of work has majorly influenced my work, especially on my current project like I mentioned.

This is a photo I took of my favourite section of the gallery which I talked about
